Most properties participating in the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA) Tax Credit program provide some level of resident services. These services are outlined in the property’s Land Use Restriction Agreement (LURA) and vary by location, meaning not all properties offer the same set of services.
In general, resident services are designed to foster a sense of community and support the success of residents. These services typically include on-site activities and programming focused on education, health and wellness, employment and financial empowerment, community safety, and access to local resources.
The Resident Services program offers a variety of on-site activities, programs, and services to individuals and families living in affordable housing tax credit properties. These offerings typically focus on the following areas:
- Education: Youth tutoring through the Kids Club program, self-esteem building, arts and crafts, life skills workshops, and other enrichment activities.
- Health and Wellness: Nutrition and meal planning, fitness classes, walking groups, and other physical wellness activities.
- Employment: Job search training, résumé building, application assistance, and job placement leads.
- Adult Education: Basic computer skills training and digital literacy support.
- Community Safety: Crime watch programs, annual National Night Out events, community clean-ups, and quarterly resident safety meetings.
- Financial Empowerment: Financial literacy classes, budgeting and savings strategies, credit education workshops, and financial goal-setting support.
- Community Resources: Resident Services Coordinators provide personalized referrals and information based on residents’ individual needs.
