Housing is a basic human right and the
most effective prevention and solution for homelessness.

Housing is a basic human right and the
most effective prevention and solution for homelessness.

The Why

Persistent unemployment, physical disability or illness, mental illness, or substance abuse are significantly harder to manage for people who are simultaneously dealing with the trauma of being unhoused. Housing creates the conditions necessary for them to heal physically and mentally, and the foundation from which they can build a long-term self-sufficient life.

The evidence is overwhelming. Housing is the most powerful intervention our community can offer.

Tarrant County Samaritan Housing, Inc. (Samaritan House) was established in 1991 to provide housing to persons living with HIV/AIDS. As medical interventions improved and life expectancies grew, we expanded our mission to provide affordable and supportive housing to additional vulnerable populations in Tarrant County, including the medically or mentally fragile, the chronically unhoused and those with low-incomes.

We added Resident Services to improve housing stability for residents of other affordable housing properties throughout Tarrant County.

The Work

Today, Samaritan House supports over 425 households in their
journey to self-sufficiency by:

  • Providing safe, supportive housing and services to individuals and families who are unhoused and live at or below the poverty level with potentially debilitating and chronic conditions including mental illness and medical and physical disabilities
    • Assisting vulnerable individuals in managing their physical and mental needs
    • Equipping chronically unhoused individuals and families with the tools necessary to become independent and self-sufficient members of the community
  • Providing safe, affordable housing to individuals and families who live at or below the poverty level.
  • Supporting long-term self-sufficiency and enhancing the quality of life for low-income housing residents through resident services by providing on-site activities and programming around education, health and wellness, employment and financial empowerment, community safety and community resources.

Creating positive change

For over 30 years, Samaritan House has been creating positive change for individuals and families who are affected by major health conditions, substance abuse issues, and mental illness; and who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness.
